WINTHROP -- Claire M. Rheaume, 91, died Friday June 11, 2010, at her home surrounded by her family.Claire was born July 29, 1918, in Winthrop, the daughter of Dolor and Eva (Dorval) Dostie. She attended Winthrop schools, graduating from Winthrop High School in 1936. She was employed locally and in 1946 married Normand Rheaume.Faith, family and friends were a large part of Claire's life. She loved being with people, especially children, and for more than 20 years she lovingly cared for children in her Winthrop home. She had a great appreciation of the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting and fishing in her younger years. She was a self-taught gardener and loved her flowers. She also enjoyed and specialized in baking wedding cakes for several years.Claire was a very devout Christian and deeply enjoyed her weekday and prayer group friends. She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winthrop and she belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Alfred W. Maxwell Jr., American Legion Post 40 in Winthrop.She was predeceased by her husband Normand Rheaume; her daughter Dolores "Del" Pelton; her grandson Matthew Rodrigue; and seven brothers and sisters, Francis Dostie, Sister Cecilia Dostie, Leo Dostie, Mathilda Poulin, Rose Rousseau, Gerard Dostie and Robert Dostie.She is survived by her daughters Patricia Rheaume and her husband, Michael Robertson, and Kathleen Dunn and her husband, Wally, and her son-in-law Fred Pelton, all of Winthrop; two brothers, Rosaire Dostie of Greene and Joseph Dostie of Florida; two sisters, Dolores Kepchar and her husband Michael of Connecticut, and Elizabeth Dostie of Winthrop; a sister-in-law Nancy Dostie of Livermore; five grandchildren, Deborah Nichols and her husband Josh of Winthrop, Diane Pelton of Portland, Doug Dunn and his wife Angel, Steve Rodrigue, and Darcy Baird and her husband Jason, all of Winthrop; eight great-grandchildren, Zach, Caleb and Haley Nichols, Noah and Bella Dunn, and Ryan, Logan and Colton Baird; also many nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends may visit from 9:30 to 10:30 on Monday, June 14, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m., at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winthrop.
