BERWICK, Maine — Claire M. Gagnon, 93, of Bell Street, died peacefully Friday, July 29, 2011, in her home lovingly surrounded by her family.Claire was born Feb. 14, 1918, in St. Pie, Quebec, one of 12 children born to Dalvinie and Emilie (Bernard) Lajoie. She married Emile J. Gagnon on May 4, 1940. Together they raised three children and celebrated nearly 31 years together until his passing in 1971. Claire spent her working years in the shoe industry at both Hubbard Shoe in Rochester, N.H. and at Robert Shoe in Somersworth, N.H.Although diminutive in size, Claire was full of life and enjoyed many new experiences. To her granddaughter's surprise, she played tennis and golf. She rode on the back of a motorcycle in spite of Emile's concerns. She enjoyed knitting crocheting, sewing, cards, camping, gardening, and travel. At the South Berwick Senior Center, she enjoyed dancing and earned the nickname 'Mini Mambo'. She loved family and was always game for any activity.In addition to her husband, Emile, Claire was predeceased by her son, Paul Gagnon, in 2010; 7 brothers and 2 sisters.She is survived by her daughters, Lillian LaRocca of Somersworth, N.H. and Mary-Jane Martin and her husband, Scott, of Strong; her daughter-in-law, Marjorie Gagnon; 8 grandchildren, Deborah Gagnon, Donna Ambrose, Sandra Perillo, Joseph Gagnon, Raymond LaRocca, Kristie LaRocca, Ryan Martin, and Sara Martin; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters, Angele Robinson of Glensdale, Ariz. and Aline Mercier of Haverhill, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street, Berwick, ME. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Parish in Berwick. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Somersworth, N.H.Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Angels Building Fund, P.O.
