Denis, Claire SCHENECTADY Claire Gushue Denis, of Troy, died suddenly Thursday, August 30, 2007 at St. Clare's Hospital. Born in Whittbourne, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret Mann Gushue. She was the widow of George (Pat) Denis. She was educated in St. Joseph's School and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School. Claire came to this country when she was 12 years old and lived in south Troy before moving to Lansingburgh where she spent the majority of her life. She was employed at Tullys Sweet Shop prior to working at Behr Manning, from where she retired. She was a member of the AOH in Troy, Waterford Senior Citizens, Troy Area Seniors and the Green Island Seniors. She loved spending summers at Cossayuna Lake and enjoyed family holiday dinners, her NY Yankees and her return trip to Newfoundland. Survivors include two daughters, Sherry (Robert Kahl) Smith of Schenectady, Denise (Dale) Wagar of Troy; one son, George (Nancy) Denis of Cohoes. She was the sister of Gordon Gushue of Troy and Bonnie Dufrane of Queensbury and the late Martha Bounds, Anne Vogel, Frederick McMillan, Cyril Gushue and John Gushue; also survived by five grandchildren, Matthew Denis, Tanham Denis, Laura Smith, Patrick Smith, Daniel Smith; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at 8:45 from the John H. Clinton Funeral Home, Washington Park and Third Street, Troy and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Church in Troy. Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
