FLEMINGTON -- Claire Dusseault Thompson, 77, died Sunday at home.Born in Newark, she was a graduate of Bloomfield High School and a resident of Flemington for the past 39 years.Claire combined her love of family, animals, sports and creativity and applied it to everything she did. The mother of six children and grandmother to seven, she considered everyone that she met a member of her extended family.Claire and her husband, Don, started Claire's Candles in 1955 and later Craftsman's Edge Printing.She was an active lifetime member of Delaware Valley Horseman's Association and designed the DVHA logo in 1968. She was also a member of the Hunterdon County Horse and Pony Association. She taught her children to ride horses having learned herself in the 1930's riding in Branchbrook Park in Newark. She was an avid gardener, canner, and loved to feed everyone. Her orchids were an attraction to family and visitors alike. She was the most dedicated Rangers, Giants and thoroughbred racing fan.The internet became a part of daily life at the age of 70 and she enjoyed the opportunities offered by this modern technology to keep in touch with her family and many friends. She kept her hand in more traditional arts as she mastered the stained glass medium. Claire also was a writing consultant for the Alabu Soap Company. She will be dearly missed by everyone whose lives she touched.Daughter of the late Paul A. and Mary Wagner Dusseault, she is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donald Allen Thompson; her son Donald A. Thompson Jr. and his wife Robin and their children Ben, Tristan and Colin; another son, Frank Thompson; four daughters, Christine Barranco and her husband Charles and their children Christopher and Emily, Beth Thompson and husband Eric Dohogne, Maryclaire Mayes and husband Dean and their children, Nell and Hal, and Margaret Marshall and her husband James.Her funeral will be held 10 a.m. Thursday from Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Ann, Lawrenceville.Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamilton.Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, c/o the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.Published in The Times, Trenton, on 2/8/2005.
