SAWYER Christopher Thomas Sawyer II, age 20, of Shelton, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 in New Haven. He was the beloved son of Donald and Judy Sciongay Fertelmes. Chris was born in Derby on November 17, 1985 and was a lifelong Shelton resident. He was an honor student and graduate of Shelton High School, Class of 2004, and was studying as a junior at Southern Connecticut State University, where he was majoring in Chemistry with a minor in Secondary Education. Chris began volunteering at the Wicke Health Care Center in Shelton in seventh grade, which led to a job working in the kitchen to present. As a high school student, he played the clarinet and was an enthusiastic member of the Shelton Marching Band. In addition to his loving parents, he is survived by his brother, Stephen Fertelmes; his paternal grandparents, Frank and Jean Fertelmes; uncle, Larry Sciongay and his wife, Michele; aunts, Linda and Betty Sciongay and Karen Hovan and her husband, Andrew; uncle, Ray Sawyer and his wife, Colleen; his great-aunt, Irene Ploski; and several cousins. Chris loved to be with his many friends at SCSU and the University of New Haven and he will be sadly missed by Ty, Mike, Brett, John and Kevin, and especially his best friend and love, Michelle Caffe. Friends may greet the family in the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton on Friday (TODAY) from 4 to 8 p.m. His funeral will leave the funeral home on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church in Shelton. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery in Derby. At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Christopher Thomas Sawyer Scholarship Fund to benefit a student at Shelton High School through the funeral director.
