Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And days o' lang syne ? HUMPHREYS - Christopher Edward Joseph Passed away peacefully in his West Vancouver home on April 21, 2008. Born on January 16, 1914 in Toronto, Chris was predeceased by his wife, Florence Winton, of over 50 years in 1990, and in 2000 by his second wife, Dorothy Booth. Chris will be missed by friends whom he has known since his youth, Arthur Goldstone and Mabel Thompson, and by his extended family through his second marriage, Michael and Darlene Booth, Bonnie Duschcherer and Sandy Hayes. Chris was a career officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force, starting in the Marine Section at Jericho Beach, Pat Bay, Uclulet, and Alliford Bay. After the Marine Section was disbanded he applied his impressive managerial talents in many areas, including aircraft maintenance in Trenton, Rockcliff and Rivers until his retirement after 27 years in 1964. After "retirement" he started a new career in the Workers' Compensation Branch, where he rose to the position of Assistant Director, Accident Prevention. He retired a second time in 1979. His remarkable memory included eyewitness accounts of WW1 Zeppelin bombings in London, the 1918 Armistice Day celebrations in front of Buckingham Palace, the Kettle Valley railroad in his youth, and the early days of the RCAF and its WW2 operations on the BC Coast. Chris was truly blessed with a remarkable, logical mind and an engineer's attention to detail. In all of his social interactions he was a true gentleman. He led a full and rewarding life and frequently called himself a lucky man. Special thanks are due to Wilma, his long term caregiver and her associates from Classic Caregivers. Wilma, and the rest of the team the personal care and attention that allowed Chris to live his final years happily in his home, in comfort and with dignity. A reception in memory of Chris will occur on Sunday, May 4th from 12:30 -2:30 pm at Chez Michel Restaurant, 1373 Marine Drive (2nd floor), West Vancouver. There is a level entrance to the restaurant from the lane. If desired, donations in Chris's memory may be made to Lions Gate Hospital, the Salvation Army or to a charity of your choice.
