PENN YAN - Christine Hetrick Smith was called to her heavenly rest Sunday, (August 21), 2011 after a brief stay in Highland Hospital.Family and friends are welcome to join us at her funeral service at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 179 Main St., Penn Yan, on Sunday, (August 28) at 2:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers, donations in Chris' name may be made to the Yates County Humane Society, 1216 Route 14A, Penn Yan, N.Y. 14527.Chris was a caring, compassionate registered nurse employed by Yates County Public Health. She was born in Soldiers and Sailors Hospital on April 17, 1960 and returned to Penn Yan four years ago to be closer to her family. Her best childhood memories were of all the time she spent on Keuka Lake with her grandparents. She loved her dog and cats, gardening, hiking, antiquing, crafts and reading. She was creative and artistic, enjoyed fossil hunting and relentlessly scouring yard sales. She was a loving daughter, sister, step-mother and aunt who took great pleasure in spending time with her family. It was her dream to have a little farm of her own.Chris is survived by her mother, Kay (Dennis) Oliver Childers of Geneva, her sister Caitlin (Edward) Johnson of Penn Yan, her brother Todd (Natalie) Hetrick of Charlotte, N.C., her nieces and nephews Alexandra, Fabienne, Tristan, Tyge and Mallory, her step-son Daniel Smith, her step-daughter Caroline (David) Francis and grandsons Erick and Colin. She will also be greatly missed by her aunts, uncles and cousins and many patients, friends and co-workers.Chris was predeceased by her father Thomas Hetrick and her grandparents, Robert and Grace Hetrick and James and Maxine Betts.Chris will always be remembered for her energy, enthusiasm and genuine caring for others. Her memory will be eternally cherished by all who knew and loved her.
