Christian "Smitty" Jesse Smith, age 43, died Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Concord Hospital. He was born in Neptune, N.J. to Pamela J. Smith and Roger P. Smith. Survivors include his wife of ten years, Katherine A. Fifield-Smith; his parents Pamela and Roger Smith of Bethlehem, Pa.; and his mother and father-in-law, Deborah and Jon Fifield of Gilmanton. His siblings and in-laws include Allison and Thomas Guillespie of Cooperstown, Pa., Sarah and Tim Kelly, and Christopher and Laura Smith, from Florida. He also leaves his in-laws, Amanda and Bruce Shute, of Gilmanton, and Beth and Alan Gaby of Concord. He leaves many nieces and nephews, and many more good friends.Christian graduated from Freehold High School, Freehold, N.J., and earned a culinary degree from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I. "Smitty" was an excellent chef who loved his work. He lived and worked in many states, from Florida, to Texas, to Seattle, Wash., and the British Virgin Islands, to name a few. He worked in Portsmouth, where he met his wife, and they later moved to Boston, where he was the executive sous chef at the Meridien Hotel. He was an animal-lover, and very loyal friend.An open house will be held Sunday, April 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gaby's house.A memorial and celebration of Smitty's life will be held at Rye Beach at a later date this spring.
