Chester Wayne Anderson, 86, died Nov. 25, 2011, at Bailey Family Caring Center in St. Augustine. He was born in Plymouth, Ill., and lived in Fort Pierce from 1968 to 1988, when he moved to St. Augustine. He joined the Navy but received a medical discharge. He re-enlisted in the Army and qualified as a sharpshooter and trained as a truck driver during World War II. He took part in the invasion of Okinawa. He then joined the Air Force and served at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Ill., for the Korean War. He sold insurance and bought and operated a student house in Champaign, Ill. While living in Fort Pierce, he bought and operated a motel and sold real estate. He retired in 2001. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Catherine Anderson of St. Augustine; two sons, Douglas Anderson of St. Augustine and Michael Anderson of Daytona Beach; a brother, Walter Anderson of St. Augustine; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell Max Anderson. Memorial contributions may be made to Moultrie Baptist Church, 3699 S. U.S. 1, St. Augustine, FL 32086. Flowers will be gratefully accepted at Craig Funeral Home, 1475 Old Dixie Highway, St. Augustine, FL 32084. Services: Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 29 at Craig Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 30 at Moultrie Baptist Church, with burial following at San Lorenzo Cemetery.
