Chester Wayne Anderson of St. Augustine died Friday, Nov. 25, at Bailey Family Caring Center in St. Augustine.He was born in Plymouth, Ill. on June 14, 1925, to Guy Martin Anderson and Blanche Neva Anderson. He attended Monkey Hill Elementary School and graduated from Plymouth High School, where he excelled in track and basketball. He loved to tell us about walking through snow running a trapline before school, and the chores he did on the farm.Chester joined the Navy first, but had a medical discharge. He reenlisted in the Army and qualified as a sharpshooter and trained as a truck driver for World War II and was part of the invasion of Okinawa. He joined the Air Force and served at Chanute Air Force base in Rantoul, Ill. for the Korean War.Chester sold insurance and bought and operated a student house in Champagne, Ill. He met his wife, Catherine LaVerne Garrett, at a church social in Champagne and married her June 9, 1957.He moved to Ft. Pierce in 1968 with his wife Cathy, their two children, Douglas and Michael, and bought and operated a motel. He started selling real estate soon after, and became a top real estate broker, which was his love and passion for over 36 years. In 1988, Wayne and Cathy moved to St. Augustine, where he retired around 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, Guy Martin Anderson, mother Blanche Neva Anderson, and younger brother Lowell Max Anderson.Chester was a lifetime member of the VFW, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a loving husband, dedicated veteran, and devoted father. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Catherine Anderson of St. Augustine, his two sons, Douglas Anderson, of St. Augustine and Michael Anderson, of Daytona Beach, his older brother, Walter Anderson of St. Augustine, and two granddaughters, Tiffany, and Nichole.He was a proud, loving, and honest man of God, and knowledgeable in the ways of the world. Any person who met him was blessed to have known him. Now he is living beside his father and rejoicing in eternity.Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov 29 at Craig Funeral Home, 1475 Old Dixie Highway, St. Augustine, FL 32084. Funeral services will be at Moultrie Baptist Church, 3699 U.S. 1 S., St. Augustine, FL 32086, Nov. 30 at 11 a.m., with burial following at San Lorenzo Cemetery.
