January 14, 2007 Chester S. Jordan, 87, of New York Mills, passed away unexpectedly on January 14, 2007 in Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care after a short illness. He was born in Utica on October 9, 1919, son of Joseph and Mary Jordan and received his education in local schools. Chester served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during WWII as a combat medic in the Pacific Theatre, receiving the Bronze Star for heroism and the Purple Heart. He was proud of his work in the Civilian Conservation Corp after the war. Mr. Jordan was united in marriage to Nellie Radlo. The couple resided in New York Mills. He was employed as a union plumber-steamfitter with Local #79, Utica, eventually becoming a field superintendent for Meyers and Laine Co. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, New York Mills, a lifetime member of New York Mills Volunteer Fire Dept., serving as assistant chief at one time, Malsan Jones V.F.W. Post 7393, New York Mills, New Hartford American Legion Post 1376. Chester was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying many outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing and mushroom picking. However, golfing was his favorite sport and he was a loyal member of Twin Ponds Golf and Country Club for several years. Survivors include his beloved wife of over 60 years, Nellie; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel C. and Cheryl Jordan, Oswego, Larry S. and Marlene Jordan, Central Square; three cherished grandsons, Larry, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer McIntosh, Timothy and his wife, Kimberly Jordan, Gregg Jordan and his fiancee, Rebecca Martel; one precious great-granddaughter, Emily Jordan; one sister, Victoria Szatko; two brothers and four sisters-in-law, Walter and Gladys Jordan, Louis and Rachael Jordan, Stella Jordan and Marilyn Jordan; also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends. He was predeceased by five brothers, Steve, Frank, Matthew, Stanley and Alfonse. Mr. Jordan's funeral will be Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at 9:15 a.m. from Wolanin Funeral Home, Inc., 266 Main St., New York Mills, and at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Burial in St. Stanislaus and Casimer Cemetery, Whitestown, with Military Honors. Calling hours are Tuesday, January 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. The New York Mills Fire Dept. and Ladies Auxiliary will meet on Tuesday, January 16 at 6 p.m., V.F.W. Post 7390 will meet at 6:15 p.m. for service. Chester's family would like to thank the physicians and their staff of St. Luke's for the care and compassion shown to their beloved father at a most difficult time.
