Charles Winn, 75, passed away Monday, Feb. 5 at St Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Winn was the son of the late Charles and Mamie Wynn of Allenhurst. Mr. Winn was born in Allenhurst on Feb. 22, 1931, and attended the public schools of Liberty County. He graduated from Liberty County Training School in 1949. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served for three years. While in the Army, he received a good conduct medal, national defense service medal and expert badge with carbine bar. Mr. Winn received honorable discharge from the U.S. Army on Feb. 9, 1954. He returned to Savannah and entered Savannah State College, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1959. He had many jobs, but the one he gave most of service to with an honorable career of 34 years was with the United States Postal Service where he worked as an accountant. He retired on Nov. 30,1990. Mr. Winn was a member of First Bryan Baptist Church and the Laymen's Ministry. Survivors are his devoted wife of 29 years, Ruby Winn; his children: LeGuardia (Violet) Cross of Pembroke, Fla; Lessie Mae Jackson, Katy Texas; Jamie and Jamall Winn of Savannah; one brother, Solomon Phillip (Fannie Mae) Winn of Highland Calif.; one sister, Annie Blanche Wright of Fort Lauderdale; five grandchildren; Kristy, Caleb, Joshua, LaGuardia Jr. and Larrnell; one brother-in-law, George E. Varnedoe Jr. of Midway; father-in-law, Horace Bacon Sr. of Midway; mother-in-law, Mamie Clay of Midway. In-laws: Horace (Blanche) Bacon, Springfield, Mass; Lawrence (Martha) Bacon of Warrenton; Eunice (Israel) Walthour of Philadelphia, Pa; Mary Johnson of Springfield, Mass.; Sophronia (Daniel) Fleming of Midway; Janice (Larry) Gordon of Hinesville; Melody (Warren) Bacon of Midway; Lislie (Ramon) Anderson of Midway; John (Sylvia) Bacon of Allenhurst; Roderick (Alicia) Bacon of Dallas, Ga; and Robbie (Linda) Bacon of Midway. Viewing/visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 11 from 6-7 p.m. at First Bryan Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m, Monday, Feb. 12 at First Bryan Baptist Church. Interment is at Magnolia Memorial Gardens. Body reposing from 9 a.m. until hour of service. Bynes-Royall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
