Charles Main Todd, 88, of Flat Rock, N.C., passed away on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003. He was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, on Sept. 30, 1915, and was the son of the late Davina Petrie Todd and Charles Todd.He worked for Doubleday & Company in New York, N.Y., and Garden City, N.Y., for 47 years, beginning his career as a messenger and working up to Art Director. He was in charge of the Literary Guild, Dollar Book Club, Fireside Theatre Club, Science Fiction Club, Family Reading Club, and Mystery Book Club.He was a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America, Nassau County Council, for 76 years and received the highest local volunteer award in Scouting, the Silver Beaver.He fought in the European Theater in World War II with the 104th infantry division, Timberwolves.He moved from Massapequa, N.Y., to Flat Rock, N.C., in 1980. He designed and built sets for the Hendersonville Little Theatre and continued to work with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in Henderson County until his death.He was a member of Pinecrest Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and usher.He was the Membership Chairperson for the Carolina Highlands Saint Andrew's Society for 14 years.Charles leaves his beloved wife of 61 years, June McClelland Todd of Flat Rock, N.C.; daughter, Alison Todd Knaperek and husband, Edward A. Knaperek Jr., a grandson, Todd E. Knaperek, all of Horse Shoe, N.C.; son, Charles McClelland Todd and wife, Jan Lee Todd, of Taylors, S.C.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Pinecrest Presbyterian Church in Flat Rock, followed by private burial. The Revs. Charles B. Evans and Andy Ward will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church prior to the service.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Boy Scouts of America, 544 Broadway, Massapequa, NY 11758-5010, or Pinecrest Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 421, Flat Rock, NC 28731.Shuler Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
