BEDFORD -- Charles S. Winn, 92, died May 9, 2010, at the VA Medical Center, Manchester. He was born Sept. 13, 1917, in Nashua to Charles A. and Marie (O'Hearn) Winn. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a recipient of two Battle Stars in the European Theater. Mr. Winn married Winnifred S. Stecher on Sept. 18, 1948, in Durham. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1950 with a bachelor of arts degree and from the University of Michigan in 1952 with a masters degree. Mr. Winn was employed as a social worker for 10 years and later the U.S. Postal Service for 17 years. He retired in 1977. He was a member of Manchester Bible Church and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans. His past memberships included Self Help for Hard of Hearing People in NH, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Appalachian Mountain Club. He was an avid cribbage player. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnifred S. Winn, in 2003 and his only son, Peter S. Winn, in 1973. Family includes several nieces and nephews. SERVICES: A memorial service is Thursday at 7 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut St., corner of Harrison Street, Manchester. The Rev. John F. Peront of Manchester Bible Church will officiate. Graveside services with military honors are Friday at 11 a.m. at Middle Neck Cemetery, Moultonboro.
