MONTGOMERY, CHARLESPalatka - Charles Herbert "Chuck" Montgomery, 87, Passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2008 Haven Hospice, Roberts Care Center, Palatka, Florida. Chuck entered this life on February 5, 1921, in Jefferson County, Kentucky, the son of Hubert & Doris Reed Montgomery, both of whom preceded him death. He resided most of his life in Jefferson County, Indiana area and attended Scholl at Cannan. He was inducted into the United States Navy on December 24, 1943, rising to the rank of Seaman Second Class during World War II, he was honorably discharged on December 29, 1945 at the Great Lakes Naval Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. Chuck worked in constructing the Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison from 1940-1962. He co-owned Pardy's Restaurant in downtown Madison for eight years. He was a professional horse trainer for 15 years in Chelsea, Indiana. He retires to Florida in 1992, and had resided there until his death. Chuck had been a member of the Madison VFW Post 1969 and Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion. He enjoyed going to the Dog Track, Horse Track, training horses and playing cards. Mr. Montgomery is Survived by 2 daughters: Beverly Jones & her husband: William of Island Grove, Florida and Carole Lyons of Madison, Indiana; 2 sons: Charles Keith Montgomery & his wife: Betty and Larry Montgomery all of Madison, Indiana; his 6 grandchildren: Lonnie Jester, Jeffrey Liter, Michelle Harris, Greg Liter, Briana Kelly & Brian Montgomery, 9 great-grandchildren & 4 great, great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parent Hubert & Doris Reed Montgomery and his brother Kenneth "Pen" Montgomery. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 11:00am at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre with Pastor Jason Thompson, officiating. Interment will follow at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana. Special Services will include: Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in memory of Charles to the Haven Hospice of Palatka, Florida, contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
