<!-- FH = Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown -->Charles Edgar JohnsonGreenvilleCharles Edgar Johnson, 88, formerly of Vine Hill Road, widower of Frances Elizabeth Cothran Johnson, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013.Born in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Edd Jackson and Beulah Burgess Johnson.Mr. Johnson retired from the United States Army and Postal Service following 20 years of service with both. A US Army veteran, Mr. Johnson served during World War II, the Korean Conflict and in Indochina. During the Korean Conflict, Mr. Johnson was awarded the Bronze Star. He retired as Chief Warrant Officer 3.He was a devoted member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church.Surviving are a daughter, Phyllis Childers and husband, Steve, of Taylors; a son, Ed Johnson and wife, Angie, of Taylors; two sisters, Betty Campbell of Anderson and Feryl Sloan of Woodruff; a brother, David Oneal Johnson of Greenville; and grandchildren, Heather Rickard and husband, Michael and Derek Johnson.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sisters, Kathryn Hudson, Martha Johnson and Marian Johnson; and brothers, Belton, William and Bruce Johnson.Mr. Johnson was a loving husband and father and the best "Papa Charles".Visitation will be held Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. in the church. Burial will be in Graceland East Memorial Park.Memorials may be made to Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 739 N.
