Charles H. Lamont, 88, of Pasadena, Md., formerly of Linden, N.J., passed away on July 13, 2014, at Morning Rainbow Assisted Living in Pasadena. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral to be held on Friday, July 18, 2014, in the United Methodist Church of Linden, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Rosedale Memorial Park, Linden. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Werson Funeral Home, 635 No. Wood Ave., Linden. There will be a Masonic service Thursday evening. To send online condolences, please visit www.wersonfuneralhome.com. Charles was born on Oct. 10, 1925, in Linden, N.J. He lived in Pasadena, Md., for the past six years. Charles was employed as a journeyman carpenter with Local 715, Elizabeth, N.J., for 43 years and served as an instructor for apprentice carpenters for 27 years at the Thomas Edison Vocational School. Charles was a member of the Cornerstone-Tyrian Masonic Lodge No. 229, F&AM, Linden since 1960. He was a member for many years of the Linden Church Bowling League and was an active member of the United Methodist Church since 1954, serving as president of the board of trustees, chairman of the endowment fund, president of the United Methodist Men and many other committees. Charles proudly served his country for three years in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific aboard the Destroyer USS Halsey Powell and survived a dive bomber attack by a Japanese airplane. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty (Mellor) Lamont (2008); his mother, Gertrude Lamont (2009), and his brother, Harold R. Lamont. Charles is survived by his loving daughter, Jayne Cocco; three cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Joseph and Brian Cocco, and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Charles H. Lamont Memorial Fund of the United Methodist Church, 321 No. Wood Ave., Linden, N.J. 07036, in his memory would be appreciated.
