-><!-- DisplayFullObituaryText -->WILLIAMS, CHARLES F. "Chuck"Charles F. Williams, 90, of Groton, passed away January 6, 2014 at the Groton Nursing Facility. Mr. Williams was born July 5, 1923 in Newark Valley, NY, the son of the late Ralph and Hazel Williams, and was a Groton resident for most of his life. In earlier years, Chuck had been been employed with SCM, before becoming the general manager for the Finger Lakes Honey Co-op in Groton. Later, Chuck worked as general manager for Ryerson Motors in Cortland, and then eventually retired as service manager for Finnegan Volkswagen Sales in Syracuse. Chuck remained active following "retirement", being a long time bus driver for the Groton Central Schools. He and his late wife, Barbara, had also co-owned "Char-Bar" Antiques and Collectibles for many years. He enjoyed furniture restoration and refinishing, bowling, and golfing in his spare time. Chuck was an Army veteran of WW II, having served in the European Theatre, and was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Surviving are his two sons, Jeffrey Williams (Randal) of Huntington, and Stephen Williams (Margie) of Locke; six grandchildren: Kristin Goodwin of Groton, Kathy Newton (Tim) of Freeville, Tricia Udland (Kyle) of Wichita, KS, Cameron Williams and Caitlin Williams, both of Huntington, and Samantha Williams of Manhattan; eight great-grandchildren: Joshua, Lucas and Kaleb Goodwin of Groton, Seth, Allison and Ty Newton of Freeville, and Sebastian and Tate Udland of Wichita. Chuck was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Barbara (Bangs) Williams on September 10, 2013; by his parents; and by a sister, Grace Knapp. Friends may call at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Ave., Groton, on Saturday, April 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. A brief Remembrance service will follow at the conclusion of calling hours. In Chuck's memory, contributions may be made to any local SPCA.
