He graduated from J.M Tate High School in 1956. Monk was married to Sybil Parker Godwin for 53 years. He served in the U.S Army and was stationed in Germany and Lebanon. After serving he worked for AT&T for 31 years where he retired and went to work at Pensacola Naval Air Station where he worked for 17 more years as a Telecommunication Specialist.He was a member of the Cathedral of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.Monk was an avid University of Florida fan and member of the Brownsville Boys. He coached little league baseball for many years at Bellview Park and loved fishing and Gator football.He was proceeded in death by his parents; Albert Jackson and Mary Mabel Godwin; sisters, Joyce Strickland and Dorothy Burns; brothers, Bruce and Arthur Godwin.Survivors include his wife, Sybil Godwin of Pensacola; daughter, Cathy Voght (Darin) of Pensacola; son, Rodney Godwin (Martha) of Allen, TX; grandson, Michael Godwin of Allen, TX; step grandson in-law, Jim Redin (Sarah) of Granite, CA; step-granddaughter, Jackie Klein (David) of Los Angeles, CA; step-great-grandsons, Jacob, Andrew and Daniel Klein of Los Angeles, CA; step-grandson DeeJay Voght (Maranda) of Pensacola, FL; step-granddaughter Aleigha Brooks (James) of Bay Minette, AL; step-great-grandsons, Xander and Killian Voght of Pensacola, FL.Rosary will be prayed at 4:30pm, Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel followed by a visitation until 6:00pm.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30pm Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, with Fr. George Thekku celebrant. Entombment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum.Active Pallbearers will be Glen Godwin, Dennis Godwin, David Burleson, Wayne Lawley, Clayton Clark and Bobby Edmunds.Honorary Pallbearers will be Bryan Barton, Ronald Parker, Edison Burleson and Paul Godwin.The Godwin Family would like to express a very special thank you to Dr. Daniel W.
