WEARE - Charles E. Colburn, 77, a well-known neighbor and friend, died peacefully Dec. 10, 2011, in the comfort of his bed, surrounded by his family and friends. Charles was born on April 14, 1934, in Henniker, the son of Edgar F. and Marjorie A. (Ellison) Colburn. He was happiest when his family was together; as he and his wife, Jeweline, raised 12 children together. Mr. Colburn served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and returned to the community he loved. Charles was a carpenter by trade and yet he was blessed with other talents, too. He could fix just about any piece of equipment and was known for his dependability and work ethic. He also was an excellent craftsman who made many beautiful pieces of furniture and two beautiful miniatures-to-scale log cabins in his home shop that are still enjoyed by the family. As an avid outdoorsman, Charles loved to hunt and go fishing. He had a green thumb and would grow vegetables each year in his garden and often give generously the bountiful harvest to his family and neighbors. His knowledge of so many things and excellent memory will be greatly missed. He is survived by his 12 children, Jewlee A. Colburn-Randall of Keene, Charles E. F. Colburn of Deering, Sharlee R. Redman of Weare, Nora J. Eaton of New Boston, Sandra L. Winslow and Linda A. Demers, both of Weare, Dorothy A. Kirlis of Manchester, Joel B. Winslow of Georgia, Christian H. Winslow of Georgia, David M. Winslow of Weare, Roger R. Winslow of Manchester and John A. Winslow of New Boston; 56 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great- grandchildren, his three brothers, Floyd, Dana and Stanley Colburn, all from Weare; and his two sisters, Lavina Dearborn of Henniker and Silvia Smith of Nashua. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Jeweline (Roye) Colburn, and by his sister, Marion L. Cortrel. . SERVICES: Calling hours are Friday, Dec. 16, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at New Boston Community Church, where a funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, at 12:30 p.m. Committal prayers and burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Weare. Maiden-Petrin Funeral Home, 45 High St., in Candia, is handling arrangements.
