Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at East Gadsden United Methodist Church for Dr. Charles D. Jordan, 83, Gadsden, who died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008. Ministers Elton Beasley, Mike Brinkman and Alton Parris will officiate. Private family burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Collier-Butler is directing.Dr. Jordan was born and raised in Boaz and joined the Army Air Force during the war. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1949 and University of Alabama Medical School in 1953. After an internship in Jacksonville, Fla., he began with three other doctors the East Gadsden Clinic and was one of the earliest licensed family practice doctors in the area. He served as chief of staff for many years at the Baptist Hospital (now Gadsden Regional) and served many boards including Blue Cross Blue Shield, the AMA and the Etowah Medical Society. His family is grateful for all the encouragement that people have given regarding his excellence as a doctor, his great bedside manner and regard for his patients and the delight it was to work with him and for him.He was a faithful and active member of East Gadsden Methodist Church, serving in many capacities. In particular, he sang in the choir for 50 years and recently was a teacher in the Fellowship class. Dr. Jordan was an avid golfer and a devoted fan of University of Alabama football.He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his sons, Darwin (Kaye) and Mark (Linda); daughter, Cheryl Morrow (Tim); grandchildren, Catherine Jordan Boozer (Bryan), Brad Jordan, Chase Jordan (Mellie), Taylor Morrow, Anna Kate Jordan Pankey (Bryson), Jordan Morrow and John Jordan; four great-grandchildren; sister, Vonelle Head; nephew, Jerry Head; and nieces, Brenda Ashley, Jama Stovall and Kathy Minton; and beloved English spaniel companion, Darby.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to East Gadsden United Methodist Church.Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Monday at East Gadsden Methodist.
