Charles M. Anderson Griffith Charles M. Anderson, 91, of Griffith, IN passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2004. He is survived by his son, Charles K. "Chuck" (Rose) Anderson of Griffith, IN; grandchildren, Craig (Paula) Anderson of Dyer, IN, Michael (Claudia) Anderson of Schererville, IN and Laura Anderson of Griffith, IN; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Lillian Anderson; two brothers, George (Jean) Anderson of Blairstown, NJ and Arthur Anderson of Silver Springs, FL; two sisters, Mae Porteus of Alhambra, CA and Laura Thompson of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law Ann Peterson of Womelsdorf, PA; brother-in-law, James McGinley of Montrose CO; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Martha and Olaf Anderson, his sister Margaret Gunderson, his wife of 61 years, Mildred and his son, Walter Anderson. "Charlie" was born in Brooklyn, NY, raised in Cranford, NJ and lived in Tucker, GA, Highland, IN and Olney, MD before moving to Griffith, IN, in 2002 to live with his son, Chuck and his family. A Memorial Sevice will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN, with Rev. Theodore J. Mens officiating. Friends may meet with his family on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until time of Service at 7:00 PM. Cremation prior to Service with final resting at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Retiring in 1975, Charlie had 39 years of service as a supervisor with the Simmons Company where he worked for them in Elizabeth, NJ, Atlanta GA and Munster, IN. As an avid sportsman, Charlie loved swimming, boxing, baseball and fishing. He was former Cub Scout Leader, Elder and Sunday School Teacher in the Methodist Church, and coach for a Simmons Company Women's Softball Team. In his later years, reading became his favorite hobby. And when reading became impossible because of poor vision, audio books became his delight. He will be remembered for his gentle, easy-going spirit, his love of family, his strong work ethic, and especially his unwavering devotion to his loving wife, Mildred. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lake County Public Library for the purchase of audio materials.
