SHUSHAN, N.Y. -- Ceola Mary Wilson, 84, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt. She was the widow of Herbert S. Wilson, who died in 1976.Born Jan. 25, 1922 in Camden Valley, she was one of the 13 children of Edward and Florence Sears Groesbeck. Ceola attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in Camden Valley.Asgrow Seed Company in Cambridge was her employer for 32 years. After their closing, she worked for Stevens and Thompson Paper Mill in Middle Falls.She was an active member of the Captain Maxson Unit, No. 634, of the American Legion Auxiliary.Ceola was a devoted bingo player.Six siblings, Edward Groesbeck, Jr., Robert and Kenneth Groesbeck, Mildred Thurber, Viola Perry (her twin) and Sarah Groesbeck, predeceased her.Survivors include her three children, Earl E. “Jack” Douglas of Shushan, William R. “Snapper” Douglas and his wife, Marilyn, of Petersburg, and Terry Weir and her husband, Kevin, of Salem; four sisters, Luci Carey of Arizona, Grace Jennings of Hoosick Falls, Patricia Herrington of Bennington and Alberta Blank of Salem; two brothers, William Groesbeck of Bennington and Eugene Groesbeck of Hudson Falls, five grandchildren, Laurie Chemotti, Earleen Douglas, Monica Douglas, Erin Douglas and Brad Weir; a great-grandson, Nicholas Chemotti; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge. There will be an American Legion Auxiliary service at 6:30 p.m.A graveside service will be held in the spring when Ceola’s ashes are buried with her husband’s at Woodland Cemetery, Cambridge.Memorial donations may be made to Captain Maxson Auxiliary, Unit No. 634, c/o Lynn MacNeil, 118 Jerome Drive, Cambridge, N.Y. 12 816.The family would like to express its gratitude to the staff of the Stark-Allen Unit at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation for their devoted care to Ceola.
