HENDERSON, George Albert "Cecil"December 26, 1923 - Stayner, OntarioSeptember 30, 2013 - Calgary, AlbertaIt is with great sadness that the family of George Albert Cecil Henderson announce his passing at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary, September 30, 2013, about three months shy of his 90th birthday. Cec was born in Stayner, Ontario on December 26, 1923; he leaves to mourn, his wife of sixty-seven years, Helen Henderson. his three children, Myrna (Don) McDonald, Calgary, AB; Russell (Victoria) Henderson of West Valley, Utah; Lynn (Dean) Maruyama of Lethbridge, Alberta; his grandchildren, Ian Harrad and family of Ontario; Judy Henderson and son; Steven (Jennie) Henderson and family; Philip (Brooke) Henderson and family; Sophia and Helene Henderson all of Utah; Kimberlee Maruyama/Peter Musil of Banff, AB; Jordan Maruyama/Carrie Schwartz of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Riley Maruyama of Vancouver, B.C.; Meghan Maruyama/Blake Fillion of Prince George, B.C.; his sister, Ethel Wall of New Market, Ontario and her family both in Calgary and Ontario and his sister-in-law Edna Sears of Brooks, Alberta and her family of Brooks, Calgary, and Ontario; extended families in Utah, Vancouver and Calgary. Cec was predeceased by his parents, Samuel Albert (Ab) Dunn and Hilda Gertrude (Mathieson) Henderson, his brother Russell Henderson and his sisters Alma Roswell, and Lois Arbour all of Ontario, great- granddaughter Ellie Henderson, and brother- in-law John Sears. Cec will also be sadly missed by his dear friends or his "Pair of Jeans" as he loved to call them – Jeannie Thornton and Jean Warner. The family cannot thank them enough for all the care and friendship they have given our father over the years. We would also like to thank his caregiver, Elaine Sanquin, who made it possible for him to stay in his home these past few months and Lou and Zara Aguilera, who also helped in his care these past years. To the Doctors and Nurses of Unit 44, McCaig Tower, Foothills Hospital – for the wonderful care, and compassion you gave our father during his days in your care, thank you. To be remembered by his cousin and friend, Doris Cooper of Gosport, England, with whom he played Scrabble most days until his Myasthenia Gravis made it almost impossible for him to use the computer. A thank you too, to Dr. D. Zochodne of the Foothills Neuromuscular Clinic and Dr. Michael Mah his family doctor. In 1943, Dad joined the Canadian Air Force and the College of Pharmacy so that he would have preference when he was out of the service. He graduated as a wireless operator June 22, 1944, was posted overseas in September, 1945 and was stationed at Bournmouth until he returned in January 1946. He left the Air Force in March 1946 and graduated Pharmacy in June 1949. Dad started work with Douglass Drugs after his graduation and in 1966, he started his own drug store business in downtown Calgary, Henderson Drugs, and Henderson Cosmetics, in 1982 he sold his stores so he could spend more time on his other business of PharmaCmart. He never lost his love of Pharmacy and until recently read about all the new medicines. He also loved Bragg Creek, where we had a cabin in early years and was devastated by the recent floods. A Celebration of Cecil's Life will be held at The Silver Springs Golf Club (1600 Varsity Estate Drive N.W.), on Friday, October 11, 2013 between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Due to our father's allergy to flowers in life, we request no flowers. Donations, if wished, may be made to the charity of your choice. In living memory of Cecil Henderson, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane.
