WILLIAMS Cecil Butler Williams of Tuscaloosa, AL, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Ernest G. Williams. The daughter of Senator and Mrs. J. Turner Butler, Mrs. Williams was born in Jacksonville, Fl on July 27, 1925 where she was a member of the Court of Ye Mystic Revellers and made her debut at the Cotillion. Upon graduating from Sweet Briar College, Mrs. Williams worked for former Florida U.S. Congressman Charles Bennett in Washington, DC. In 1951, she married Ernest G. Williams and moved to Tuscaloosa, AL where she lived until her death. Mrs. Williams dedicated her life to her beloved family and many civic and social activities. Her involvement included president Tuscaloosa Womens Chamber of Commerce, deacon and active member of First Presbyterian Church, president of Mardi Gras Club, board of directors of RISE, a member and state vice president of National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in Alabama, director and honorary member of Board of Governors of University Club, a member of Jr. League of Jacksonville and Tuscaloosa, member of The White House Association, First White House of the Confederacy, Blue Stockings, Chloris, Tuesday Night Supper Club, Carousel, North River Yacht Club, and University of Alabama Presidents Mansion Renovation Co- Chairman. She is survived by her three children and nine grandchildren, Ford Williams of Tuscaloosa, his wife Bunny and their two children, Gentry and Mary Ford; Turner Williams of Birmingham, his wife Libba, and their four children, Turner Jr., Harris, Elizabeth Ann, and Ford; and Cece Hartley of Birmingham, her husband Kenny, and their three children, Charlie, Gaines, and Butler. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth Butler Warner, brother- in- law and sister- in-law Gus and Martha Williams, and cousin Horace Drew. The family is also grateful for the kindness of her caregivers Pam Killian, Patsy Howard, Bobbie Pugh, Nora Beard, Evelyn Hardy, and her friend Charles Hilburn. Following a private family burial, a memorial service was held at the First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa on Monday, March 3. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, the Ernest G. and Cecil B. Williams Endowment Fund at the University of Alabama and RISE.
