BROOKLIN - It is with a deep sense of loss that we mourn the passing of Catherine S. Allen, Jan. 7, 2010, at Parker Ridge Assisted Living Facility. She was born Feb. 10, 1925, the daughter of Harold and Claribel Staples. Catherine graduated from Brooklin High School, Class of 1943. In 1944, she married C. Henry Allen of Brooklin, and spent time living in Georgia and Florida while he was in the service. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. Catherine worked at various occupations that allowed her to be home to raise her three daughters. In her 50s, she proudly completed a certified nurse's aide course and worked at Penobscot Nursing Home preparing meals for their residents. She was an active member of The First Baptist Church, Brooklin, as an organist, a Sunday school and vacation Bible schoolteacher, while quietly bringing glory to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Many were blessed by the example of her life. She is survived by her three daughters and their spouses, Sharon and Bruce Goding of Baileyville, Cheryl and Terry Ginn of Pell City, Ala., and Marianne and Jim Eaton of Deer Isle; a special niece, Susanne Noessel and her husband, Bob; her eight grandchildren, Barbara Scharf, Amy Hacker, Bethany Tavernakis, Kimberly Wilkerson, Jennifer Larrabee, Christine Williams, Sarah Bezanson and Peter Eaton; her great-grandchildren, Christopher, Brooklyn, Amber, Ethan, Skylar, Ian, Kiras, Brody, Nicholas, Seth, Jacob, Joshua and Haley; and she was awaiting the arrival of her 14th great-grandchild in May. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, C. Henry Allen; an infant brother, Harold; a beloved sister, Shirley Cousins; a nephew, Galen Cousins; and her grandson, Matthew Goding. The family will receive relatives and friends 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan 16, at The First Baptist Church, Brooklin, where funeral services will commence 2 p.m. with the Rev. Scott Cleveland officiating. Contributions may be made in Catherine's memory to The First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 76, Brooklin, ME 04616. Condolences may be expressed at www.jordanfernald.com.
