She was also known as "Babookay." She adopted Cortland, NY as her hometown while living there from 1964-2009. Kay became friends with so many people while working at the County Health Dept. before retiring in 1991 that her husband Harry said she could have been elected Mayor. Some of Kay's happiest memories included her vacations to Alaska and Hawaii, growing up on her family's farm during the Great Depression, hot air balloons, drinking Manhattans, enjoying the little house on the lake in Melbourne, FL where she spent many years as a snowbird until 2008, her snowmobiling episode at age of 74 in Vail, watching the "Damn Dogs" for her son's family, making "Bullfrogs" for Snyder family reunions, and avoiding speeding tickets by telling the police she had to go to the bathroom (her other nickname was "Bullitt"). Her biggest disappointment was that she never got that little black VW convertible she always wanted. Kay was a fighter. Her health challenges included diabetes, heart disease, COPD, breast cancer, melanoma, Kidney disease, Parkinson's neuropathy, and three strokes. When informed by her doctor in 1981 at the age of 57 after having an aorta valve replacement that she would go quickly when her time was up, she went home, made herself a Manhattan and said "To hell with it." The mechanical aorta valve was only supposed to last 10 years yet she had the same one at her death at age of 89.Catherine is survived by her son, Thomas D. (Maureen) Harrington of Pinellas Park, Fla.; her daughter, Cathey A. Jewel of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren, TJ (Rena) and Kelly Harrington, Caitlin and Connor Jewel; two great-grandchildren, Breana and James Harrington; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas H.
