May 18, 2003 Catherine H. Young, 93, of South Main St., Earlville, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2003 at her home. Born March 7, 1910 in Utica, NY, she was a daughter of Owen G. and Jane Edwards Humphreys. She was a graduate of Bath High School and Geneseo College. Catherine was married to Stuart E. Young who predeceased her on June 21, 1964. Mrs. Young was a teacher at Sherburne-Earlville Central School until her retirement, and had also worked with her husband in their drug store. Mrs. Young was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Earlville, where she held several offices. She was a member of the United Methodist Women; the Quincy Square Museum in Earlville; the Earlville Free Library, where she was a past board member; and was a former member of the 20th Century Club. Mr. and Mrs. Young had also operated the Gray Gunner Kennel in Earlville where they were the first in the area to bring the Weimaraner breed of dog from Germany and raise them. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, David E. and Catherine L. Young of Earlville; a grandson, Kevin J. Young of Norwich; and a cousin, Nesta Powell of Clinton. She was predeceased by a brother, Griffith Humphreys. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2003 from the First United Methodist Church, North Main St., Earlville. Burial will be private in the West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne. Friends are invited to call at the church on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m., prior to service.
