BIRCH, Catherine Elizabeth Pat R.N. (nee: Patterson) - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Elizabeth (Pat) Birch in her 93rd year peacefully surrounded by her family at the Brantford General Hospital on Friday, November 28,2008. Pat was the beloved wife of the late Harold (Dade) Birch (1998). She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Elizabeth Egleston Patterson, brothers John and Alfred, and sister Agnes Cantelon. Loving mother of Larry and wife Mary of Perth, Ontario, Judy Dennis and husband Peter of Brantford, and Jim and wife Sandy of Cobourg. Caring Grandmother of Catherine Birch and husband. Chris of Ottawa, Jennifer Birch and partner Jason of Ottawa, Andrew Dennis and wife Laura of Toronto, Chris Dennis and wife Jamey of Cambridge, Jordan Birch and partner Amanda of Cobourg, and Shane Birch of Montreal. Precious Grandma Googles to great grandchildren Taylor and Kendra Dennis of Cambridge and Matthew Dennis of Toronto. In addition to her immediate family, Catherine will be sadly missed by her sister-in-law Verla Hostetler of Kitchener, her many nieces, their families, and her many friends in St Thomas and Brantford. Pat was a very proud graduate of the Stratford General Hospital School of Nursing (Class of 1937). After graduation, she practiced her profession in Stratford and London, moving to St. Thomas in 1950 with her husband and family. After a few years off to raise her 3 children, Pat returned full time to nursing at the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital, finishing her career as a member of the Faculty of Fanshawe College in the Psychiatric Nursing Assistant's Program. A memorial service will be held in St Thomas in the spring. Arrangements will be communicated later. If desired, donations in Catherine's name may be made to the Brantford General Hospital Foundation.
