DOVER ; Catherine "Kaye" Bailey, 83, of 28 Toftree Lane and Clearwater, Fla., died Nov. 26, 2008 at the St Ann Healthcare Center, surrounded by her loving family.She was born Catherine Grace Bullock in Hartford Conn., on July 8, 1925, the daughter of C. Clifford and Marion I. Bullock. She graduated from Bristol High School and the University of Connecticut with a degree in education. Kaye married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence "Ace" Bailey on Aug. 30, 1946 and soon after moved to Lewiston, Maine, where Ace attended Bates College. Upon graduation, the couple moved back to Connecticut to start a family.When the children were older, Kaye received her teaching certificate from The University of Hartford. She taught fourth grade at Northeast Elementary School in Bristol, Conn., for many years. She had a deep concern for children with learning disabilities, and through her tireless efforts, she was instrumental in bringing "special education" programs in to the public school system.In 1968, the family moved to Durham so Ace could pursue a career in purchasing with General Electric. Kaye did a lot of substitute teaching in the area before finding a home at Mast Way Elementary School in Lee. She taught fourth grade there until her retirement in 1973. Kaye enjoyed dual residency in Dover and Clearwater, Fla. She was very active in Faith Church of Clearwater, the Jester's variety group, and volunteered at Countryside Mease Hospital, Suncoast Hospice in Florida and just recently joined the volunteer team at Seacoast Hospice-Hyder Family Hospice House.She is survived by her son David W. Bailey of Miami, Fla.; her daughter Dawn B. Lynch and son-in-law Michael Lynch of Dover; two brothers, C. Gilbert Bullock and his wife Dorothy, of Valley Center, Calif., and Gerald D Bullock and his wife Dorie D. Bullock of West Hartford, Conn.; three grandchildren, Kasey Catherine Lynch of Dover, Micah Clifford Bailey and Leanna Colleen Bailey of Miami, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.Kaye was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Ace Bailey, who died in 2004.A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday Dec. 2, 2008 at 1 p.m. at First Parish Church ; Central Avenue, Dover. A private burial service will be at a later date.The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the St. Ann Healthcare Center for their love, compassion, and for the excellent care that they provided.
