Catharine Rigby Helck (nee Catharine Keyes Rigby) of Madison, N.J., passed away tragically in an automobile accident on Oct. 4, 2011. She was 45 years old. Born on Aug. 16, 1966, in Dallas, Texas, Catharine was the daughter of the late Catharine Washburne and Robert Whitney Rigby. She was raised in Longmeadow, Mass., and was a graduate of Longmeadow High School and the College of William and Mary in Virginia. Catharine was a member of the Madison United Methodist Church. She was also active in the Madison community, including the YMCA, and church and local PTOs (including the Central Avenue School). She was an avid reader and communicator. Once employed as an editor for children's books at Harper Collins in Manhattan, she developed a successful freelance editing career out of her home. Catharine is survived by her loving husband, Christopher Helck; her cherished children, Robert Powers Helck and Eileen Rigby Helck; her devoted brother, Mark Ransford Rigby of Indianapolis, Ind., and his family, as well as her in-laws and their families. She will be missed by friends and families in the community, the region, and across the country. A private family service for Catharine was held at the Madison United Methodist Church and burial was at Hanover Cemetery in Hanover, N.J. A service of memorial, celebration and remembrance for all who were touched by Catharine is being planned and will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Madison Area YMCA (www.madisonymca.org), or a fund set up at the Multiple Sclerosis Society in her name (http://main.nationalmssociety.org/goto/CatharineHelck).
