Carroll DeRoy Stone, 84, husband of Juanita Wells Stone for 64 years, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer.Mr. Stone was born August 25, 1924 in Laurens County to the late Alvin Dean Stone and Ethel Martin Stone. He retired from the John D. Hollingsworth Company and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Carol Dean Stone and wife Ann; three daughters and their husbands, DeNan and Jim Porterfield, Elaine and Rick Powell, and Carla and Jack Powell; a brother, Lanier Stone and wife Joan; three sisters, Mozell Goodwin, Deane Cooper and husband Harold, and Iris Mabry; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Frances McDowell; and a grandson, Chad Powell.Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fletcher Funeral Service.Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery officiated by Dr. Eddy Mattison, and his niece, Dr. Kitty Holtzclaw.
