Mother Carrie Kent Brown - HINESVILLE - But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they that mount up with wings as eagles... Is 40:31 On Wednesday, June 17, 2009, Mother Carrie Kent Brown, 86, took wings and flew away to be with the Lord. Mother Kent-Brown was born on Sept. 23, 1923 to the late Mr. Henry Brown and the late Mrs. Lucille Brown in Walterboro, S.C. She grew up and attended school in Bryan Co. She met sad married the late George W. Kent. To this union were born 10 children, 4 of whom, Johnnie Kent, George Rent, Jr., Herbert Kent and Mary Griffin preceded her in death. Mother Kent-Brown was referred to by many as Mrs. Carrie & Evangelist Brown. She was a mother, friend, mentor and political motivator to many. She was appointed by Gov. Jimmy Carter to serve as a chartered member of City Council for the City of Walthourville. Was Mayor of the City of Walthourville for many years and was an ordained Evangelist of the Aisle of Hope Holiness Church Unto The Lord. She was loved and will be truly missed by all who knew her. Survivors: five daughters: Martha (Larry) Johnson of Syracuse, NY, Vickie Byrd of Pembroke, GA., Irma Gene (Willie) Thomas of Augusta, GA., Carrie (Virgil) Nesbitt and Francine (Tommie) Kelly both of Walthourville, GA. Two sons: Henry (Tomekia) Kent of Augusta, Ga. and Michael (Belinda) Kent of Walthourville, GA. one adopted granddaughter, Sadetris Goss. Two brothers: Jerome (Dorothy)Brown of Bingington, NY and Joe Brown of Maryland. One sister: Jewell Hatchel of Louisville, KY., one sister-in-law, Mildred Simmons of Pembroke. GA., 44 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren and a host of sorrowing relatives, friends and loved ones. Viewing will be Monday, June 22 at Aisle of Hope Church from 6pm-7pm. Homegoing services will be Tuesday, June 23 at 1:00pm at Bradwell Institute High School gymnasium. The body will lie in state starting at 12:00 noon until the hour of service. Burial will be at Stephen Grove Cemetery in Pembroke, GA. following the service.
