Funeral service for Carrie Bertha Lee Brown Henderson, 86, Glenwood Street, Daytona Beach, who died Monday, June 27, 2005, at Florida Hospital Ormond, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Vincent Mitchell, senior pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, White Street. Calling hours are from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. today (Friday, July 1) at Thompson Funeral Home. Mrs. Henderson was born March 30, 1919, in Blakely, Ga., the youngest of five to Mack and Annie Jones Brown. She completed her education in the Early County School System, Blakely. She met and married Sylvester Henderson in Blakely. To that union two children were born, Nella and Robert Lee. After 36 years, she retired from Halifax Medical Center as the linen room supervisor. During those years she was also employed in the housekeeping department. Since 1945 she was a faithful member of Allen Chapel AME Church. She was a member of the Senior Stewardess Board and the Glossie M. Beckton Women's Missionary Society, the Lillie M. Pickett Area WMS and the Orlando Florida Annual Conference WMS. Until her health deteriorated, she was an active member of the Sophisticated Seniors and enjoyed attending Church School and the Mid-Week Noon Day Bible Study. Among her favorite things were, (song), "I Want Jesus to Walk With Me," (scripture), 23rd Psalm, (color), red and black. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a special bond with her nieces and nephews. She had a zest for life, laughter and people. Mrs. Henderson leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Nella (Andrew) Roberts; son, Robert L. (Brenda) Henderson; grandchildren, Teresa (Rufus) Johnson, Alicia and Tamika Henderson; great-grandchildren, Tristen Johnson, Derrick and Desmond Oatis; a host of loving nieces and nephews; in-laws, Wessie Mae Brown, Alma Brown, Virginia Brown, Milton Henderson, Emma Henderson and Elsie Henderson; godchildren, Rosalyn Fletcher, Melvee Crumiell, Doris Williams, Jarryn (Jay) Smith and Elisha Rhoulhac; and many adoptive children and grandchildren.
