ObituaryCarolyn M. Smith, 80, Ellenton, Florida died on July 21, 2006. She was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania in 1925 and attended high school and college in that area. She was a resident of Fort Myers from the late 1960's to 1989, where her husband was a golf writer for the News-Press. She returned to the Ellenton-Palmetto area in 1989 upon retirement from the Lee County School System.She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Vince Smith. Survivors include three sons, Rick Smith (Vanessa) of Stuart, Florida, Mac Smith (Kathy) of Ellenton, Florida, Lonny Smith (Pat) of Hood river, Oregon, her daughter Sharon Greene (John) of Ellenton, Florida, a step-daughter Robin Miller (Max) of Fort Myers, Florida, her sister Cynthia M. Mattson of Broomall, Pennsylvania, two sisters-in-law, Betty Lou Mitchell of Gulfport, Florida and Hannah McKelvy of Chicago, Illinois, numerous nieces and nephews, eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She loved outdoor activities and never tired of being on or near the water. Her lifelong interests included gardening, ice-skating, swimming, boating, beachcoming and hiking. She loved traveling with her family to North Carolina, Oregon, Upstate New York, Pennsylvania and Hawaii. In her later years she took great joy in her activities with her many friends and neighbors at Palm Grove Mobile Home Park in Ellenton.There will be a memorial service Saturday, 10 AM at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel, 1015 14th St. W.
