Carolyn "Sue" Johnson-Phillips born June 26, 1944 in Woodbine, Kentucky, died February 13, 2011 at her residence in Port Orange, Florida at the age of 66. Sue was one of 12 children of parents Daniel & Isabel (Isaac) Smith (both deceased). She was a long time resident in Lafayette, Indiana and later moved to Florida in 1995. She earned her degree as an LPN and later as an RN at Ivy Tech in Lafayette, IN, graduating with honors. Sue worked as a registered nurse for Arnett Clinic in Lafayette, IN for 17 years and furthered her nursing career in the Daytona Beach, FL area. Sue was married to Donald Edgar Johnson in 1961 (who preceded her in death in 1989). She later remarried William A. Phillips (still surviving) of DeBary, FL in 1998. She is survived by four children, Tammy K. Sullivan, Pennie S. Johnson-Watkins, Donnie A. Johnson (wife, April) & Steven D. Johnson (wife, Deborah) all from Lafayette, IN; four step-children, William A. Phillips II from East Greenwich, RI, Annette Phillips form Holiday, FL, Justin Phillips from Port Orange, FL and Ryan Phillips from Apopka, FL; 10 grandchildren, one step-grandchild and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers; five sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death along with her parents is a sister, Myrtle Smith. Prior to her move to Florida, Sue attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of Lafayette, IN. Sue was an avid fisherwoman and had a great love of the sea. She earned the nickname "Casinosue" from her love of gambling and computer games. Traveling, NASCAR, dancing, karaoke, darts, motorcycle riding, and being a great hostess to many friends and family were passions as well. A memorial celebration for the life of Sue will be held at 11:00a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 in the Port Orange Chapel of Volusia Memorial Funeral Homes. There will also be services held in Lafayette, IN to be established at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you consider a memorial donation to the Breast Cancer Society.
