<!-- FH = HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL -->Carolyn L. Smith1930-2012Carolyn L. Smith, 81, of Pensacola went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 3, 2012.Mrs. Smith was born on March 11, 1930 in East Orange, NJ to John Denton Dale and Phoebe Angeline (Jamison) Linson. Upon graduation from Glen Ridge (NJ) High School Carolyn and Lansing were married (she loved to tell the story of her last report card being signed by her husband) and after a honeymoon in NYC at the Waldorf Astoria, moved to Pasadena, CA where Lansing had been transferred by General Electric. It was in Pasadena that their first child, Dale L. Smith was born. In the early 1950's Lansing and Carolyn moved to Lansing's hometown of Pensacola where their second and third children, Lansing Taylor IV and Christine DeEtte, were born. Though Carolyn was certified as an LPN and worked in that capacity for a short time, her first love and main focus in life was in her role as a homemaker, community service volunteer and churchwoman. She was active in the Jr. League of Pensacola, and served as a docent at the Pensacola Museum of Art in its new location in the old Pensacola jail. She loved socializing and dancing and was a member of Revelers and Merry Makers. Carolyn loved boating, water skiing, gulf fishing and playing the piano. Many years were spent during Lansing's retirement sunning, swimming, dining, dancing and golfing at Pensacola Country Club, accompanied often by her husband, children and grandchildren. In 1964 Carolyn rededicated her life to the service of Jesus Christ under the ministry of Donald B. Patterson at McIlwain Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was active there in Women's Circle, taught Sunday school, and for many years worked in the office. Carolyn was an avid reader of Christian literature and theology. She was also a frequent contributor of letters to the editor of the Pensacola News Journal.Carolyn was spirited, quick-witted, and humorous. She had an inquiring mind and loved conversation. Her living legacy to all who knew and loved her was her infectious joy and peace. She possessed this joy, and that peace that passes understanding spoken of by the Apostle Paul in "good measure, pressed down, running over." She epitomized that beautiful woman described in Proverbs 31, "Her children rise up and called her blessed, her husband also, and he praises her." She is enjoying now her eternal reward, dancing on streets of gold. Our comfort and consolation rests in the assurance that she is now in the presence of her blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who surely welcomed her into his presence saying, "Well done thou good and faithful servant." Mrs. Smith is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Lansing T. Smith, III; sons Dale L. Smith and wife Anne, Lansing Taylor Smith IV; daughter Christine Segers and husband Bud. as well as 9 grandchildren: Catherine, Meredith, Jonathan and Benjamin Smith, Shelly, Brittany and Taylor Smith, Brandon Segers and Lindsay Liechty and 9 great grandchildren who lovingly called her "GG"A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at McIlwain Memorial Presbyterian Church with Pastor Rob Looper and Pastor Clif Wilcox officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Smith to McIlwain Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1220 East Blount St., Pensacola, FL 32503, or to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504, or to Covenant Christian Academy, 901 Cheek Sparger Rd., Colleyville, TX 76034..The Smith family would like to express a special thanks to Covenant Hospice, and TLC Caregivers.HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
