ObituaryCarol Smith, 77, of Fort Myers passed away Friday, May 1, 2009 of lung cancer and complications due to a previous stroke. She was under the care of Hope Hospice at Shell Point Retirement Community.Carol was born and raised in Vineland, NJ. She grew up playing the piano, was in choir, band & orchestra throughout high school, and than graduated as a music major from college. After college she married Richard Smith and became an Air Force wife. She traveled extensively with her husband and family. Dick and Carol retired to Sanibel Island in the 80's.Carol is survived by her husband of 55 years, Richard; her children and their (spouses): Susan, Douglas (Connie), Laura, Charles (Lori); her grandchildren and their (spouses): Richard (Emily), Rachel (Jason), Erin (Ryan), Jake, Brian, Ellie and JayR; her great-grandchildren: Mason, Connor, Katie, Reagan and Josh; her sister Jane (Dean) and her nieces Jaci (Bill), Juli (Darryl) and their children.Carol will be remembered for her outgoing personality, warm, loving smile and her love of music and her children. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the warm, caring, loving people at Shell Point Pavilion and Hope Hospice.A memorial service will be held at: St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 2304 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, FL 33957 June 2, 2009, 10:30 a.m.Family requests that memorial donations be made to Hope Hospice of Fort Myers (Main Office: Hospice House Fort Myers, 9470 HealthPark Circle; Fort Myers, FL 33908) or St. Michael's Church.
