Owen, Carol R. passed away on June 7, 2005. Carol was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed boating in the Bahamas and traveling to exotic destinations with family and friends. He did extensive volunteer work and was a huge supporter of children's charities. He was actively involved with the American Lung Association, Kiwanis Club, the Hallandale Chamber of Commerce, Memorial Hospital, the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital and the Hallandale Scholarship Fund. Carol also donated his time to help establish Memorial Manor Skilled Nursing Facility and create adult daycare for residents of Hallandale. Carol was a longtime resident of Hallandale and one of the first residents of Golden Isles. He was born in Poplar Bluff, MO in 1935 to Mary Hughes and Cline Owen. He went to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX at the age of sixteen and became a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He later studied law at the University of Florida. He and his wife Dorothy came to Florida in the late 50's to begin a career in banking. His family was instrumental in forming the first Bank of Hallandale in the 1950's. After it sold in the early 80's, Carol spearheaded the Family Bank of Hallandale. Under his direction, the bank developed a strong relationship with Israel and invested in Israel Bonds. He loved working and living in Hallandale and had very strong ties to the community. His wife Pam, sons John and David and daughters Judy and Christina survive Carol. He was a very proud grandfather to Naomi, Emma, Owen and Caroline. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 on Thursday June 9, 2005 at Scarano's Funeral Home in Hallandale. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Friday at Scarano's with a graveside service to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in Ft. Lauderdale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to DiMaggio Children's Hospital.
