SMITH, Carol Lynn B.Sc. in Zoology, B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering, PTOE, P. Eng. December 14, 1959 November 12, 2011 Peacefully, Carol quietly passed away at the Royal Jubilee Hospice in Victoria, after a two year battle with brain cancer. She was 51 years old. Carol was born in Moncton, NB and at age 3 moved to London, Ontario, then at age 9 moved to North Vancouver. Carol was exceedingly bright and talented. She graduated from Handsworth Secondary at age 16. She obtained a degree in Zoology from UBC at age 20, and then went on to complete her degree in Civil Engineering also from UBC. She received her Professional Engineers designation at 26 and practiced engineering for 23 years. She was a highly skilled Traffic Engineer and was well respected by her peers. Carol was an active member of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club for over 25 years. She loved to race her sail boat "Barzhang " with her "all girls " crew. They were always very competitive and had lots of fun. Carol was a kind, loving woman with a great sense of humor and a big smile. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her and her family and friends will miss her dearly. Carol is survived by her loving family, Husband Pierre Boudreau, Mother Marian Smith, Brother Don Smith, Sisters Kathy Morris (David Morris), Jan Jones (Doug Jones) and their families. Carol's father Wallace Smith passed away in 2010. A service will be held at St Aiden's United Church, 3703 St. Aiden's Street, Victoria, on Monday, November 28th at 1:00 P.M. A reception will be held afterwards from 2:30 to 4:30 P.M. at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, 3475 Ripon Rd, Victoria. All who knew Carol are welcome to join us as we celebrate her life. A UBC scholarship fund will be established under Carol Smith's name. The scholarship will be awarded to help promising female civil engineers.
