Carol Jane Mooreof Maine, N.Y.Carol Jane Moore, 84, passed away on Sept. 12, 2005 following a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born on Nov. 19, 1920 in Binghamton, she was the only child of Rufus and Molly (Everdale/Streater) Clark. Mrs. Moore was an active member of the Maine community, where she grew up and then raised her own family, for over 80 years. She was a graduate of Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, Ohio, and proudly served as a Lieutenant JG Navy Nurse during World War II. While stationed in Pensacola, Florida, she met and married her husband, Dee Yancey Moore, originally of Mount Vernon, Texas, and now residing in Maine. Mrs. Moore loved to learn and continued her education while raising her family. Over the years, she completed her Bachelor's of Science at Harpur College in Binghamton, obtained School Nurse's Certification, became a Family Nurse Practitioner, and took voice lessons at Ithaca College. She practiced in several Southern Tier medical offices, including Dr. Morris Eber's office in Maine and Broome Community College Student Health Services. She was proud to know that two of her granddaughters followed her lead and are pursuing degrees in healthcare. Carol Jane was an active member of the Maine Federated Church where she sang in the choir, served as church organist and was President and Treasurer of the Women's Society. She enjoyed vacationing at the family cottage in Sylvan Beach and was instrumental in organizing summer services at the Sylvan Beach Union Chapel. She showed her commitment to her community through her volunteer work at the Children's Home of Wyoming Conference and the Nanticoke Valley Historical Society (Founding Member). In addition, she was a member of the Broome County Doll Club. In addition to her husband of 60 years, Dee Y. Moore, Carol Jane is survived by her children and their spouses, Diane and Bud Ames, Cortland, Yancey and Linda Moore, Maine, and Tanya and Randy Pifer, North Bay. She was most proud of her nine grandchildren, Johanna (Matt Coats) Ames, Tanya Ames, Christina and Randy Pifer, and Devin, Cedric, Aaron, Tyler and Spencer Moore.The family will receive friends at the Maine Federated Church on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. A celebratory service of Carol Jane's life will be held at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Sprite and Rev. Steven Johnson, co-Pastors, will officiate. Interment will be in the Maine Cemetery. Contributions in honor of our wife, mother and grandmother may be made to: The Maine Federated Church, The Sylvan Beach Union Chapel, The Maine Emergency Squad or The Children's Home of Wyoming Conference. Those wishing to send flowers may note that her favorite color was purple. Caring assistance is being provided by The Cooley Family of MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley.
