->PITTSTON -- Carol Hofer Wilson passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, with her family by her side at home on the Smithtown Road, following an 11-year battle with breast cancer. Carol was born Dec. 17, 1939, in Greensburgh, Pa. She grew up in Perry Hall, Md., and graduated from Catholic High School of Baltimore in 1957. She then graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Radiologic Technology in 1961 and continued to work there as a staff technologist. She married Harry Wilson II of Bath in 1962. After staying home raising her children until they all started school, Carol began working for the Maine State Employees Association, where she retired in 2004 from her position as administrative assistant.Carol's strength, determination and courage were respected and admired by everyone who knew her.She was predeceased by her parents, Simon F. Hofer and Madeline Denne Hofer.She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Harry Wilson, formerly of Bath, and their three children, Harry Wilson III and his wife, Denise Partridge and their children, Brandon and Bailey of Skowhegan; Jenifer and her husband, Ronald Dodge Jr., and their children, Meagan and Jacob of West Gardiner; and Rebecca and her husband, Brad McFarland and their children, Ben and Seth, also of West Gardiner. She is also survived by a brother, Edward Hofer and his wife, Debra, of Rougemont, N.C., and a sister, Charlene Dickson and her husband, Paul, of Westminster, Md., and many nephews and nieces.Beside her love of family, Carol was proud of their home they built in Pittston on the river and the camp they built on Ebeemee Lake. Visiting will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. A graveside service for friends and family will take place at Coss Hill Cemetery in Pittston at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, followed by a celebration of Carol's life at her home on the Smithtown Road.In lieu of flowers, if desired donations may be made to Maine Center for Cancer Medicine, 81 Medical Center Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011.
