She was born to the late Marion Butler Killian and Lola Estelle (Mize) Killian on July 6, 1940. She was preceded in death by her sister, Myra Sue Slate of Clemons, North Carolina. Carol was married in 1967 and is survived by her husband of 46 years, James Russell Cox and children, Catherine Leigh Cox Womack and Andrew Russell Cox, both of Douglasville, Georgia. Along with the children, Carol is also survived by five grandchildren, Justin Ryan Womack, Kelsey Erin Womack, Lillian Grace Womack, Stephen Brady Forman and Jacob Hye Farr and one beautiful great grandchild, Kellen Michael Womack. Carol graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1958. She attended East Tennessee State University prior to moving to Atlanta, Georgia. Carol was employed in the dental profession for a number of years and succeeded in receiving her Dental Hygienists license in 1964. Carol practiced dental hygiene for numerous dentists in Atlanta and Douglasville until her retirement in 2002. In her spare time she enjoyed participating in youth sports most notably in coaching girls softball. Cooking was a passion of hers and she was an avid gardener. She further enjoyed going to the beach and watching the waves. She enjoyed hosting holiday parties at home which allowed her to further practice her cooking skills. It can be said that anyone who was fortunate to be in attendance at the gatherings, when they left, they never left hungry. There are many other accolades that could be said or used in describing her life but one thing is sure, she enjoyed life. In honor of her life, there will be a "Celebration of Life" service for Carol which will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 2:00pm until 5:00 pm at Hudson's Pavilion located at 6800 Cedar Mountain Road, Douglasville, Ga. 30134. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Douglas County Library System and most particularly made to the Dog River Library. She was adamant in supporting this branch even though she hardly got to use it prior to her passing.
