SHERRILL - Capt. Daniel E. Kelly, 56, Betsinger Road, died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 9, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his family and very close friends, following an illness of the past several months. Born in Utica, on Sept. 27, 1954, he was a son of Carl and Reta Dager Kelly. A resident of Sherrill for the past 10 years, Dan was a graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School. He married Kathleen Oot in Vernon on Jan. 19, 1991. Mr. Kelly was a professional pilot for NetJets Airlines for the past 10 years, and also owned and operated Kelly Excavating Company. He was a member of Believers Chapel. Dan was also a member of the QB's (Quiet Birds Pilots Association) and was a former member of the Verona Fire Department. Surviving besides his wife, Kathleen and his parents, Carl and Reta Kelly of Boonville, are one daughter and son-in-law, Jaime and Patrick Manzi of Oneida; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeremy and Patrice Kelly of Granby, Robert and Stephanie Johnson of Vernon Center and Shawn Johnson and Chi Dang of Ventura, Calif.; one sister and brother-in-law, Carla and Dan Mackey of Stockton, N.J.; one brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Patty Kelly of Park City, Utah; his special and beloved granddaughter, Lauren Farmer; and several nieces and nephews. Dan also leaves behind many dear and close friends who shared his enthusiasm for flying and cars.Funeral services will be held 4 p.m., Saturday, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida, with the Pastor Mike Webster, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home, 1-4 p.m., Saturday. Contributions, in his memory, may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home.
