Colleen-M. Johnson, conjointe de Robert-E. -Johnson Sr, mère de Lance, Valarie, Kathleen, Henry, Melanie, Mark, Mary, Gregory et Robert E, est décédée.
COLLEEN M. (SHANKS) JOHNSON - BURLINGTON - On Oct. 20, 2014, our mother, Colleen M. (Shanks) Johnson, was called by Jesus to enter her eternal rest. John 14:2 states, "In my Father's House are many mansions. I am going to prepare a place for you so that where I am you may also be." Our mother's place was ready and Jesus came to take her there. Mom was the most selfless person we have ever met. She never put herself before anyone. She was a walking testament of God's love. Mom was married Oct. 2, 1946, to our dad, Robert E. Johnson. They bought their home on Pennington Drive in 1954, where mom and dad began raising a family of six, and where mom resided until she left us. Our parents leave a legacy through all the children they and their children had. Mom, as a young girl, lived on Hayward Street in the south end of Burlington. She worked at Collette's when she was very young. After getting married some years later, she became an LNA and did that work until retirement. Caring for someone else is who mom was and it brought her great fulfillment. Our mother leaves behind her son, Lance and wife, Valarie; daughter, Kathleen and husband, Henry Robare; daughter, Melanie and husband, Mark Reutter; daughter, Mary Ann and partner, Mike Condon; daughter-in-law, Diana Johnson; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Robert E. Johnson Sr.; infant daughter, Kathleen; son, Gregory T.; and youngest son, Robert E. "BJ" Johnson Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Church on North Avenue, with burial immediately following at New Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are in the care of the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service South Chapel, Burlington. To send online condolences to the family please visit www.readyfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston VT 05495. Our mother's thoughts would be today as they always were; Exalt Jesus Christ, let Him become your very dearest friend, because that is all that really matters in this life. We are born to honor God through what we say and do, and we die to go back to Him, full circle, complete. We are only passing through, make your time count.
