NEW BALTIMORE Clifford F. Armstrong, 86, entered eternal life Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness. Cliff was born in Athens on January 12, 1920 to the late Joseph and Helena Armstrong. He was raised and worked on the family farm in West Coxsackie for most of his life. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and was a fighter pilot (ACE) in World War II. Stationed in England, he was a member of the 353rd fighter group in the 352nd squadron. He was promoted to captain shortly before leaving active military in 1946. He continued serving his country in the Air National Guard until 1958 where he attained the rank of major. Cliff was a 60-year member of the New Baltimore American Legion Post 1614 and a 60-year member of the Cornell Hook and Ladder. Cliff is predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Billie Jones Armstrong, and his brother, Lester. He is survived by his daughters, Karla Armstrong of New Baltimore and Elaine (Ernest) Amabile of Albany; his grandchildren, Rachel, Nicholas and Alison; and his sisters, Eleanor Moon of West Coxsackie and Madelyn Backlund of Fla. He is also survived by his dear friend, Margaret Furness of Rome, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 27 at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena. Burial will follow in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 7. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Grace United Methodist Church, 16 Hillcrest Drive, Ravena, NY 12143 would be appreciated.
