HAMILTON, CLAUDE C., 79Gainesville - Claude Chilton Hamilton, 79 of Gainesville returned home to his Lord and Savior May 1, 2014. He was born 8/12/1934 in Mt. Hope, WV to Claude and Elrie Martin Hamilton. Claude was a highly decorated military veteran attaining the rank of Master Sargent in the Army Special Forces as a paratrooper. He served more than 30 years in the Florida National Guard as a Rifleman and Firearms Instructor. He led the National Guard Rifle Team to 3 state championships. He will be buried with full military honors. Mr. Hamilton worked and retired after 33 years at Dade County Tax Assessor's Office. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, often taking family and friends in their motorhome. Claude was in his early life a pilot. He loved electronics. He was a Mason and a man of the Methodist faith. Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by his brother Victor Hamilton. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan M. Hamilton: daughters Selena (Steve) Battard of Newberry and Dawnn (Rod) Klopp of Lebanon, PA: sister Nola (Frank) Lentz of Gainesville: sister in law, Jerry Hamilton of Homestead, FL; grandchildren Dylan Battard, Ashley Elrie Batson and Kaila Ames. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 10:00 AM in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fl. Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA.
