LEE, CHARLES "CHARLIE" WINFIELD age 82, of Hoover passed away on the morning of November 14th, 2011. The visitation for family and friends will begin at noon this Thursday, November the 17th, with funeral services starting at 1pm at the Johns-Ridouts Elmwood Chapel. The burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery, immediately following the services. Charles was preceded in death by a son, Charles Winfield Lee, Jr. and his parents Charles Vernon and Mildred Lucille Hennessey Lee. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Burgdorf Lee, and loving children, Scott David Lee (Stephanie) and Suzanne Michelle Scott (Donald). Step-sons, Charles Alan Newton (Debra); Michael Scott Newton (Wendy) and David Kyle Newton (Bethann); six grandchildren: Chad, Justin, Matthew, Meghan, Maggie and Jay Newton. Charles was a charter member of the Riverchase United Methodist Church, Hoover, AL. He graduated from the following schools: West End High School, Birmingham Southern and the University Of Alabama School Of Dentistry. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at Birmingham Southern. Charles served as an Artillery Officer posted to Germany and assigned to the 43rd Infantry Division, a blocking division. He returned to the United States in 1954 and put on Reserve status with the U.S. Army. He retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1982. Charles retired from his Dental Practice in Brookwood, AL. in February 2001. He has been involved in several charities of which being very closely attached to the Big Oak Ranch where he donated his time and expertise in Dental work for the girls. He was a former member of the District Dental Society of Alabama and a member of the Birmingham Genealogical Society, Inc. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Charles' name to the Big Oak Girls Ranch, Springville, AL. >>
