CHARLES R. McFADDEN CROWN POINT, IN Charles R. "Bud" McFadden, age 90, of Crown Point, IN passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Saint Anthony's Medical Center following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Rita T. (Ligda) McFadden; son: Charles Stephen (Mary Jo) of Fort Wright, KY; daughter: MaryKay Ruble (Todd) of Crown Point; three grandchildren: Matthew T. Ruble of Seattle, WA; Christopher J. Ruble of Lowell, IN; and Monica E. McFadden of Fort Wright, KY. Bud is also survived by brothers: Darrell of Logansport, IN; and Robert of Katy, TX; sisters: Mary Quigg of Santa Ana, CA; and Etta Claxton of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents: Charles V. and Mary K. (Strong) McFadden; his sister: Phyllis J. McFadden; and brother: Florian O'Day of Englewood, FL. Bud was a Corporal in the 255th Field Artillery Battalion in General Patton's Third Army in the European Theatre during WW II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He served as Assistant Postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1972. Following a second career as Supervisor of Custodial Services with the Crown Point Community Schools, he retired in 1989. He was Vice President of the Lake County Historical Society as well as Military Curator and longtime volunteer at the Lake County Historical Museum. Bud was a Life Member of the American Legion Post 20 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1563 and youth basketball coach. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave/South St, Crown Point, IN 46307 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre in Crown Point, IN. Interment will take place at Maplewood Memorial Cemetery in Crown Point. Memorials may be given to the Lake County Historical Museum, Courthouse Square Suite 202, Crown Point, IN 46307.
