SIDNEY -- Cecile Marie Roy, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Kindred Health Care Facility, Augusta, with her children by her side. She was born on Jan. 9, 1921, in Eagle Lake. She was the daughter of Willie Plourd and Marie Rose (Parent) Plourd.She was educated in the Eagle Lake Schools, all the while working on the family farm.She married Clarence Roy Sr. on June 17, 1941. Cecile's mother passed away in 1944 and Cecile and Clarence helped raise her younger siblings. Cecile and family moved to the Augusta area in the early 50's. Cecile took jobs at White Cloud Laundry, Bates Mfg. -- Edwards Division and McClellan's before starting a long career in state service. Cecile took great pride in her work, and kept working until she was 70 years old.One of Cecile's greatest pleasures was cooking for her very large family, especially holiday meals. She also liked to crochet and there are still many, many of her afghans out there today. Cecile's family was so big, that as the number grandchildren and great-great children grew, the family had to rent a hall for holiday parties to fit them all in. Cecile had many, many friends, and was loved by all who knew her. She was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of The Ladies of St. Anne, The American Legion Post 2, Cushnoc Senior Citizens Group, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Maine State Employees Association.Cecile enjoyed people and loved to go out and meet with her friends from her state days for lunches. When she was younger, she was fondly known as "Box Car Willy" by her husband of 50 years Clarence Sr. for her readiness to travel. She had many trips to Eagle Lake to visit relatives, as well trips to Canada, Branson, Mo., Connecticut, South Carolina and Florida. Cecile loved to dance and would get out on the dance floor any chance she got. Cecile had many special nieces and cousins that she spent a lot of time with, Imelda Plourd, Bertha Arbour, Sylvia Gallagher, and many, many more over the years. Cecile and her husband,Clarence, had eight children, spreading them out from 1942 to 1963.Cecile was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband of 50 years, Clarence J. Sr.; her daughter, Marie Rose "Blanche" Lunt; and her brothers, Joseph Cyr "Ti Babe," Jean Louis "John," and Joseph Roderick "Gross Babe." Cecile is survived by her children and their spouses, Maxine Morton, Clarence Roy Jr., Maryann Trask, William (Billy) Roy, all of Augusta, Alice Gove, of Winthrop, Glenn Roy, of Florida and Mona McDonald, of Sidney. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers: Joseph Leo Plourd, of Sidney, and Richard Plourd, of Chelsea; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.Cecile will be remembered for her unconditional love and caring for everyone in her family as well as her many friends. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all of the caring and loving staff at Kindred Rehabilitation Center in Augusta for their wonderful care of Memeré in her last months with us.Relatives and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6 at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, where officers and members of the Ladies of St. Anne are asked to meet at 3 p.m. to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Avenue, Augusta.
